Some of you may recall a mystery raised in this post. As you can see by scrolling down to the comments, a possible answer was raised.
Troutbots.
And so, I set out to learn more about these Troutbots. While my primary goal is to learn more about what's going on with them, I must confess my secondary goal is to find the creator of them and arrive at their doorstep with my wrecking bar.
A wikipedia search provided no information. I haven't tried cha cha yet. I did find a profile for a forum, although it may be incidental. I will file it away for future reference, however, just in case. I found another discussion on the matter by what appears to be a blog of some sort.
Then, finally, I struck gold. More or less. What I found was a blog that explained the issue very briefly in words I'd already seen, but included a link to a wikipedia article that explains the matter and had been ignored by my previous wikipedia search because the names are nothing alike.
It even indicates the livejournal username of the creator of the bot (in it's varied incarnations), as well as a command for getting out of the annoying convo, a list of other names that it may appear as, a history of the matter, and a website where you can actually request to be targeted by the bot.
